Recap: Mock Interviews w/ Bloomberg Industry
What You May Have Missed

Hi everyone, this is Nakyah 👋🏾!
We recently hosted an incredible Technical & Behavioral Interview Workshop with Bloomberg Industry—an organization that blends tech, AI, and analytics to build tools for professionals in law, tax, and government. This event was filled with valuable insight on Bloomberg’s mission, engineering structure, and how to prepare like a pro for interviews.
Here’s what you missed:
💼 What Bloomberg Industry Does
Bloomberg Industry focuses on building software that brings real-time, intelligent insights directly to the customer. Their key verticals include:
Law: Creating workflow tools for law firms by analyzing court dockets, legal filings, and other data.
Tax: Developing centralized platforms for tax professionals using AI and regulatory content.
Government: Delivering political and policy intelligence to government professionals using news, data, and AI tools.
Company Culture & Engineering Teams
Bloomberg is deeply rooted in philanthropy and service, contributing over 3,000 volunteer hours annually.
Their engineering organization includes five teams:
Product Engineering: Builds customer-facing apps.
Platform Engineering: Manages infrastructure and cloud services (AWS, Azure).
Security Engineering (InfoSec): Protects customer data and sets company-wide security standards.
Internal Systems: Develops internal tools like authentication systems.
Strategy & Ops: Ensures team alignment, delivery tracking, and cross-functional strategy execution.
🗣️ Behavioral Interview Tips
Led by Bloomberg professionals, here are top takeaways:
Preparation is everything: Study the job description, company values, and tech stack beforehand.
Master your elevator pitch: A 30-second summary of who you are and what you bring to the table.
Communicate clearly: Speak confidently and avoid filler words. Practice aloud.
Use the STAR method:
Situation
Task
Action
Result
Showcase specific outcomes, not just what “we” did—share your role.
Close strong: Ask meaningful questions. Reinforce your interest and readiness to learn and grow.
💻 Technical Interview Tips
Clarify the problem first: Restate the question in your own words before jumping into code.
Plan before coding: Write pseudocode or outline your approach to show your thought process.
Practice data structures & algorithms: Know your fundamentals—arrays, trees, graphs, hash maps, etc.
Focus on runtime and space complexity: Interviewers care about efficiency as much as correctness.
LeetCode is your best friend: Not to memorize, but to recognize patterns.
Communicate constantly: Explain your reasoning. If stuck, talk through your thinking. Interviewers want to see how you think, not just whether you get it right.
Be okay with imperfection: Even if your solution isn’t perfect, showing resilience, adaptability, and critical thinking matters a lot.
💡 Final Takeaway
Whether you're prepping for your first internship or looking to land a full-time role, interviewing is a skill you can develop. Practice with friends, block out time to study, and most importantly—show up as yourself. Your experiences and perspective matter.
